The Blue Star Memorial Program was adopted in 1945 by the National Council of State Garden Clubs to honor the men and women of the armed forces. Garden Club members visualized a living memorial, preferring to help beautify and preserve the country these men and women had fought for. Over time the marker was changed to include the words " A tribute to the Armed Forces of America". See the Fairbanks Blue Star Memorial located at 1215 Cowles Street, behind the Noel Wien Library in Weeks Field.
